Deepnest map

Deepnest is the dark, spider-filled region in the bottom left of Hallownest and the reason the Lumafly Lantern exists. Its map is unusually cheap at 38 Geo from Cornifer and 50 from Iselda, because Cornifer is too frightened to have finished it.

Where is Cornifer in Deepnest?

Lower Deepnest, reached from the Mantis Village side. Head left, then up and left. He is silent here, not humming.

Missed him? Every Cornifer location and what Iselda charges instead.

Deepnest is the area the game expects to scare you. Rooms are pitch black without the Lumafly Lantern, the floor collapses, centipedes burst from the ceiling, and Deepling corpses on the walls animate when you walk past. Buy the Lumafly Lantern from Sly for 1800 Geo before you commit. Without it you are navigating on sound.

Cornifer is hiding in the lower section, and he is not humming, because he is terrified. Reach him by going left from the Mantis Village side after beating the Mantis Lords, then up and to the left. His map costs only 38 Geo, the second cheapest in the game, and Iselda sells it for 50. The low price is a joke at Cornifer's expense: the Deepnest map is full of blank patches and question marks because he never finished surveying it.

Herrah the Beast, the third Dreamer, sleeps in the Beast's Den in the west. Getting there means crossing a long stretch of collapsing floors and dodging the Distant Village's spiders. Nosk, an optional boss that mimics your own shape, lurks in a side cave and drops a Mask Shard. Galien, a Warrior Dream, hangs in the north. There are five grubs here, a Pale Ore behind Herrah, the Weaversong charm in the Weavers' Den, and a Hallownest Seal or two for Lemm.

The Distant Village has a Stag Station, which is the sane way to get in and out. There is also a tram connecting Deepnest to the Ancient Basin, and the Tram Pass needed to use it is found in the Deepnest side of the network. Once both stations are open, the tram turns a horrible walk into a ten second ride.

Practical advice: equip the Wayward Compass here even if you never use it elsewhere. Deepnest rooms look identical in the dark and the compass dot is the difference between navigating and wandering. Move slowly, hit walls, and expect the floor to be a lie.

Places inside Deepnest

  • Beast's Den
  • Distant Village
  • Weavers' Den
  • Hidden Station
  • Nosk's lair
  • Failed Tramway

Tips

  • Buy the Lumafly Lantern from Sly for 1800 Geo first. Deepnest is unplayable dark without it.
  • Equip Wayward Compass. Rooms look identical and the dot keeps you oriented.
  • Cornifer is silent here, so look for his paper trail rather than listening.
  • The map is only 38 Geo because Cornifer never finished it. Expect blank patches.
  • Floors collapse on purpose. Assume any flat surface in the dark is a trap.
  • Open the Distant Village Stag Station and the tram early so you never have to walk in again.
