Where is Cornifer in Fog Canyon?

Fog Canyon is short, strange and full of explosive jellyfish. Charged Lumaflies detonate when hit or touched, and the big Uoma and Duranda jellyfish drift in patterns that make the narrow corridors annoying. The region is mostly a connector, linking Greenpath, the Fungal Wastes and the Queen's Gardens, with the Teacher's Archives hanging on its eastern side.

Cornifer is in the western half, and reaching him is awkward on a first pass. From Queen's Station in the Fungal Wastes, go up and left, then climb to the top of the room and go left again. A shade gate blocks one of the approaches until you have the Shade Cloak, so if you hit a black barrier you are on the wrong route. At 150 Geo from Cornifer, or 200 from Iselda, this is the joint most expensive map in the game alongside the Queen's Gardens. Fog Canyon is small enough that plenty of players skip it, but the Archives interior is genuinely confusing and the map covers it.

The Teacher's Archives in the east holds Monomon the Teacher, one of the three Dreamers, sealed behind Uumuu. Uumuu is a floating jellyfish boss that is immune to your nail; you have to bait Quirrel into striking its core, then punish the stun. Beating it and Dream Nailing Monomon removes one of the three seals on the Black Egg Temple. Quirrel waits outside afterwards for one of the better quiet moments in the game.

The rest of Fog Canyon is small. There is one grub, a Whispering Root, an Overgrown Mound connection back into Greenpath, and a hidden route into the Queen's Gardens through the far west. If you are collecting, the area is a quick clean-up. If you are just progressing, you pass through it twice and never think about it again.

Two practical notes. Charged Lumaflies do contact damage when they pop, so kill them at range with Vengeful Spirit rather than the nail. And the Archives floor is acid in places, so the Isma's Tear route back is far more comfortable than the first visit.

Tips

• Kill Charged Lumaflies with spells from range. Hitting them with the nail puts you inside the blast.
• Uumuu cannot be damaged by your nail. Lure Quirrel into hitting the core, then attack during the stun.
• This map and the Queen's Gardens map are the most expensive at 150 from Cornifer, 200 from Iselda.
• A shade gate blocks one route in. You need the Shade Cloak from the Abyss to use it.
• Monomon is usually the easiest Dreamer to reach first.
• The far west passage is a shortcut into the Queen's Gardens that skips a long detour.
